Outages, Impassable Roads Close Sparta Schools Monday

Superintendent says schools will be closed until conditions are safe, power is restored.

Sparta schools will be closed again Monday as outages continue to linger and some roads remain impassble throughout the town, the superintendent said.

According to Superintendent Dennis Tobin, schools will be closed until further notice until roads are "safe for passage by our buses, for students to be safely at bus stops and until we have power at all five schools."

The Alpine School remained without power on Sunday, Tobin said.

"If schools are opened prior to Thursday…Thursday and Friday will be considered school days," Tobin said.

The Board of Education plans to adopt a new school calendar to make up the days lost due to the storm, Tobin said.
