Sussex County Offers Summer Reading

The Sussex County Library System will be providing a free, fun-filled Summer Reading Program again this year! The program includes weekly fun events and reading clubs. The Summer Reading Clubs are for ages 6 months through 18 years and are the highlight of our summer programming. Opening Week begins Monday, June 25 and special events are planned for the week of June 25 through June 30 at the Main Library and the five branches.

For children ages six months through those children entering grade three, the club theme is "Dream Big." Children are required to read at least one book per week for the four weeks in July in order to receive a prize at the end of each week. Those kids entering grades 4 - 6 are required to read at least one book per week for the four weeks in July in order to receive a prize at the end of the summer. Online registration for this club begins Monday, June 18. Age appropriate weekly programs including stories, books, games, and crafts will be available at all six branches for four weeks beginning July 2 (June 27 for the Dorothy Henry and Dennis Branches). For kids entering grades 4-6 the theme is also "Dream Big" but instead of story times, programs such as LEGO Stories, Wii Competition, and Pick-a-Handicraft workshops with be provided. Special programs such as astronomy, concerts, and craft workshops are being offered. Please register for each program online and each one separately as space is limited. As always, siblings are welcome to attend programs as long as there is room. Registration for these programs begins Monday, June 18.

For teens entering grades 7 - 12, the theme is "Own the Night." Teens are required to read at least one book per week for the four weeks in July in order to receive a prize at the end of the summer. The Sussex County Library System will be raffling off two large prizes (to be announced) to teens who submit book reviews through the online teen reading club. Online registration for this club begins Monday, June 18. The programs planned for teens include the Just Us Teens Book Club, the Onigiri Animanga Club, a National Library Lock-in Night, and concerts. Registration for these programs begins Monday, June 18.

Some branches will need teen volunteers, ages 14 and up, to help with shelving library materials, children's programs, and programs planned for teens. Applications will be available on our website and an orientation session is required. Each branch should be contacted directly.

Or you can go to any of the six branches and register at the branch. Registration for the clubs and programs begins June 18.
