Outages Drop as JCP&L Adds More Manpower

Eleven days after Superstorm Sandy, JCP&L said they would restore most New Jersey outages by Saturday evening by adding 1,200 line workers to the nearly 7,000 workers already that were on the ground throughout the state.

Exactly one week after Hurricane Sandy and a day after JCP&L falsey predicted 1,900 homes would get their power back, the OEM said the latest predictions for power restoration was two weeks, while the whole town still remained in the dark.

While the borough entered week two without power, Mayor Sylvia Petillo released her first of several communication updates, and said said she plans on having more updates on power restoration and communicating with residents daily.

A woman—whose identity police have not released—wasn't hurt when she drove her car into Lake Hopatcong after hitting a guard rail late off Hopatcong Street.

Chatham Police Chief Says Email to Hopatcong Mayor Ignored

Chatham Police Chief and Hopatcong Resident Philip Crosson Jr. wrote a letter to the editor critiquing the mayor's response to Sandy and said his email was ignored. 

Hopatcong saw its largest drop in outages nine days after Hurricane Sandy knocked the borough completely without power.

Mayor Sylvia Petillo said that JCP&L reported that 1,900 homes should have their power back six days after Hurricane Sandy. This was the first the borough heard of power restorations, but the power company was not able to restore the homes as promised.

PSEG and JCP&L released updated timetables that allowed customers to see a prediction of when their power would return.
