  1. You Need to Know the Idea: Hit up as many Sussex County historical spots as possible using a map provided by the county, which suggests starting in Montague at the Foster-Armstrong House and ending in Stanhope at the Waterloo Village.
  2. You Need to Get the Map: Click to the right to see it. Or download the PDF here under "2011 Sussex County Heritage Tour."
  3. You Need to Know About Hopatcong's Part: The tour stops at Hopatcong at the end. Kind of. It suggests checking out the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum, which is at the Hopatcong State Park … which is really in Landing. But we're just being nit-picky.
  4. You Need to Know You Better Like Museums: If you follow the full map, you'll see 12. Your only other stops: A trip to the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council and Waterloo.
  5. You Need to Know About Staying Local: Say you don't care so much about learning about the northern part of the county. There are spots on the map in Byram, Andover, Stanhope and Landing, too.
