What to Expect From Community Garden Meeting

Organizers to update Hopatcong residents on garden's status.

The Hopatcong Community Garden project has picked up steam since friends revived the idea, first proposed by Alice King, a Hopatcong resident killed in a motorcycle accident in 2011.

Organizers will host a meeting at the municipal building at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Organizer Sharon Gruber said she expects several topics to arise after special guest Wanda Knapik from the Bernardsville Garden speaks.

"We will have updates on funding," Gruber said. "We're going to be asking for more volunteers and we're going to to be going over the requirements for membership."

Gruber said she's received plenty of interest recently from members of the public.

"We've had a very good reception," she said. "People have been steadily finding out about the garden. They've been saying that they'd like to help or that they're interested in joining. Pretty soon people are going to have to make that decision."

Gruber said the garden still expects to host about 40 plots.
