Woman Drives Into Lake, Power Restored Top Local News

Police said a woman wasn't hurt when she drove her car into Lake Hopatcong after hitting a guard rail late Thursday night. Police said they are not releasing the name of the driver.

The majority of Hopatcong residents got their power restored on Sunday night, nearly two weeks after Superstorm Sandy left the whole borough in the dark.

Dozens of residents attended the borough council meeting Wednesday night to get some answers about the response from Hurricane Sandy. Residents and officials agreed that communication was the main issue in the days after the storm.

A Hopatcong resident who was injured the night of Sandy when a tree fell on her is still recovering from the accident and reflects on her devastating experience that night.

Police said a Sparta man was struck and pinned into a guide rail by an alleged drunk driver Sunday night on Seneca Lake Road. The driver, Charlene Myers, 40, a Seneca Lake Road resident, was charged with DWI, careless driving and fourth-degree assault by auto, police said.

After two weeks, the Hopatcong High School shelter closed its doors on Monday, and students returned to class two days later.

Sparta Police said nearly 100 Sparta residents experienced a post-Superstorm Sandy power outage on Nov. 11. after an alleged drunk driver crashed into a utility pole.
