BOE Hopefuls Talk Issues at Candidates Forum

The nonpolitical forum held Monday was sponsored the Hopatcong Democratic Club.

Approximately 25 Hopatcong residents turned out Monday night for the Hopatcong Democratic Club's Board of Education Candidates Night at the Hopatcong Senior Center, the New Jersey Herald reported.

Running for three open school board seats this year are incumbents Frank Farruggia and Michele Perrotti and challengers Amber Charlebois, Anthony Fasano, John Maine and former BOE member Joan Reilly. The only hopeful not in attendance was Maine.

Topics discussed during the forum included improving communication, school security, achieving more fiscal responsibility in the district and boosting school rankings, the article said. Each candidate present was given an opportunity to spend five minutes describing their goals, backgrounds and what they hope to do as Board of Education members to improve Hopatcong schools.

Democratic Club President Jerry Burger told the Herald the goal of the non-political event was to let the public get to know each candidate better and insight into how the school district functions in advance of the Nov. 5 election.
