College Student, 19, Elected to Hopatcong School Board

Incumbent Douglas McKernan ousted from Sparta BOE.

Tuesday's general election included Board of Education races in Hopatcong and Sparta, and bodies in both towns will welcome new members at the beginning of 2014.

In Hopatcong, 19-year-old Anthony Fasano, a first-time candidate who is a freshman business student at Montclair State University, won a three-year term on the school board. Incumbents Michele Perrotti and Frank Farrugia were re-elected to their seats.

Sparta voters also opted to elect new blood to its Board of Education. Brenda Beebe, Kelly Anne McEvoy and James Todd Muth won victories over incumbent Douglas McKernan and challengers Dorothy LaBeau and Keith Smith.
