Incumbents Retain Seats in Hopatcong, Sussex County

No real change in borough and county government following Tuesday's polling.

It will be business as usual for Sussex County following Tuesday's general election.

Hopatcong and Sparta residents chose to keep its Republican legislative team intact. State Sen. Steven V. Oroho and General Assembly members Alison Littell McHose and F. Parker Space were sent to Trenton for another term, handing defeat to Democrats William "Bill" Weightman and Susan M. Williams.

On the county level, Republican Sheriff Michael Strada was unopposed. Surrogate Gary Chuisano of the GOP was able to withstand a challenge by outspoken Independent candidate Robert "Bob" Morris. And Sussex County Freeholders Richard Vohden and George Graham, both Republicans, faced no ballot opposition.

The same holds true for the Hopatcong Borough Council. Republican incumbents Michael Francis and Richard Hoer defeated Democrat Mara Modes and Independent John Pezzino to retain their seats on the borough's governing body.

There was no municipal race in Sparta Township.
