Chilly Weather Brings On United Way's Chili Open Golf Classic

It's the 11th year for the golf classic that benefits the working poor of Sussex County.

No matter how cold the weather or heavy the snow, nothing deters true golfers from participating in the United Way of Northern New Jersey's Chili Open Golf Classic. In its eleventh year, the Golf Classic will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.

After playing 18 holes - sometimes in the snow - golfers enjoy a variety of chili and other food from local eateries at a luncheon with their family and friends. There's also the chance to participate in the day's raffle and win prizes donated by local businesses and community members.

The golfing event is supported by Sussex County Rotary Clubs and other local businesses and organizations.

Proceeds will benefit ALICE, the vulnerable, low-income population living throughout Sussex County which the United Way helps. According to the group, approximately one-third of area residents fall into the ALICE or "Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed" segment of the low wage population.

Tickets are $60 for golfers who participated in 2013, and $75 for those new to the event. To sign up, go to the United Way's secure website. For more information, call 973-579-3040.
