Good News for Worried Parents: Teen Driver Course Teaches the Real-Life Perils of Driving

The Sussex County Technical School and Mahwah's Drive Safer have partnered to help keep young drivers safe behind the wheel.

The entities have are behind a Drive Safer six-hour intensive experiential learning program for teens that opens their eyes to the real-life perils of driving. The course will be offered Saturday at MetLife Stadium.

“Drive Safer programs go beyond the basics of Driver’s Ed and the operation of a vehicle to actually controlling it,” says Debra Spaldo, a physics teacher at Sussex Country Tech. “Our students and communities need this type 
of training, and I’m proud that we are helping more people have access to such important programs.”

Along with offering participants hands-on experience in real-life driving scenarios from certified driving instructors, the program gives students access to unique tools like the Drive Safer Skid Car, which teaches car control, plus bonuses like insurance discounts and license point reductions.

“We are helping to save lives, and Drive Safer donates 12 percent of the registration revenues back to the school to use for student programs – it’s a win-win!” says Spaldo. 

“Motor vehicle accidents are the number one killer of teens in the U.S., and this has to stop,” says Jason Friedman, CEO of Drive Safer. “Many parents don’t have access to the critically important information that they need to protect and teach their teens how to safely operate and control their car. This is why we work with local high schools to present programs like this.”
