Who is Hopatcong-Sparta's Person of the Year in 2013?

Patch bestows the honor, but we need you to decide who is the honoree.

Hopatcong and Sparta have had quite a year.

We're just weeks away from turning the calendar on 2013, a year in which we saw great accomplishments and, sadly, lost loved neighbors.

So, we're asking you, our readers, to nominate a "Person of the Year" for 2013.

We're not limiting nominations to single persons, either. Do you think it was a group that did something noteworthy this year? How about a sports team, a grassroots community organization or maybe a local business that made a difference in the community?

Or, maybe you want to honor someone posthumously.

Consider the nomination period open right now. Post your thoughts in the comments section below. We won't have a vote-off unless it's too close to call, so the total number of nominations for a person, group or business on this thread, based on what's in the comments, will be our honoree.

We look forward to your nominations and, as always, thanks for your participating and being part of our Patch family.

I would like to nominate the Hopatcong Police Department for all of their work in helping to clean up the town !

That was my first thought as well! Hopatcong Police Department is changing this town for the better, especially with their diligence concerning the illegal drug trade.

Yes, the HPD is deserving of the recognition. Their efforts in apprehending at least some of the drug dealers and drug users in this town moves us in the right direction. Additionally, their DWI enforcement efforts helps keeps our roads safer. Keep up the good work guys!

I think the HPD deserves it. But if it were one person, my vote goes to Anthony Fasano. What a year he has had. Go Hopatcong!

Oh yes, Kevin Natale is a good one as well. Wow, so many good people in this community.
