Former Sparta Resident and Church Volunteer Laura LaFrance Dies at 92
Before leaving Sparta for Newton in 2010, LaFrance spent time working at the Sparta United Methodist Church "Mouse" Thrift Shop.
Laura J. Harris La France died Saturday at the Barn Hill Care Center in Newton. She was 92 years old.
A native of Bradford, Pa., she lived in Newton for the past three years, and previously spent more than 20 years in Sparta. Prior to this, she had lived in Hornell, N.Y. for 44 years.
While in Sparta, LaFrance was a congregant of the Sparta United Methodist Church, and frequently volunteered in the church thrift shop.
Surviving her are daughters Mary Jo Sanchez and Jean Catherine La France, son-in-law Bud Larson and niece Sheila Schaal.
Viewing will take place Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St. in Sparta.
The funeral will take place Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 Route 517, Sparta.
