Louise Sachs, Volunteer Who Helped Disabled Veterans, Dies at 91

Sachs served as secretary, treasurer and two-term chapter commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

Sparta resident Louise A. Sachs died Dec. 29 at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton, according to the website of Goble Funeral Home. She was 91 years old.

Born in Jefferson Township, Sachs lived most of her life in Sparta, operating the White Village Inn with her late husband, Stephen, until his passing in 1969.

She moved to Arizona in 1976 but returned to Sparta in 1997 to be near her family, residing at Knoll Heights since 2000.

Sachs was very active in charity work as a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, donating her time and resources to area veterans' hospitals. She served two terms as the DAVA's chapter commander after serving terms as secretary and treasurer. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey.

She was predeceased by her son William Sachs, of Sparta, in 1999.
 
Louise Sachs is survived by her remaining two sons, Stephen Socha, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Robert Socha, of Sparta; grandson Rob Socha, of Jersey City; and sister Julia Pascoe, of Jefferson Township.

A visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta. A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. . Interment takes place 11 a.m. Monday at Sparta Cemetery.
