Sparta HS Alum Gregory Muller Dies of Cancer at 24

Muller's family said he lived life to the fullest, and his fellow students described him as upbeat and positive, even when he wasn't feeling well.

Gregory C. Muller died last Wednesday at his home in Sparta after a long bout with cancer, according to a notice on the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home website. He was 24 years old.

Born in Morristown, Muller was a longtime resident of Sparta. He graduated from Sparta High School in 2007 and earned two associate's degrees from the County College of Morris. He had been continuing his education as a Dean's List student at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., working toward obtaining a bachelor's degree and doctorate in physical therapy.

Muller's family said he lived life to the fullest and his college colleagues described him as upbeat and positive, even when he wasn't feeling well. He was a member of Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. He spent time working at AASU's Lane Library, where a number of his fellow students are mourning him deeply via Facebook. He enjoyed hiking, playing lacrosse, skiing and spending time with his family and friends. In spite of his illness, he founded an intramural lacrosse team at Armstrong Atlantic State.

Muller is survived by his parents, Lynn and Charles Muller of Sparta; his twin brothers, Alexander and Benjamin Muller; and his grandmother, Lucille Kline.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ Church in Newton. Arrangements were directed by the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, N.Y. 10087-7106.
