19 Bags of Heroin Seized in Sparta Junction Bust

Three men allegedly found with open alcohol containers in car.

A trio of Sussex County men were charged with heroin possession after Sparta police said they found 19 bags of the drug in their car, along with open bottles of alcohol, on Jan. 12.

Michael Scalici, 24, of Hamburg, the driver of the car, was charged with possession of heroin, possesion of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and issued several motor vehicle summonses. Michael Trivisani, 22, of Sussex, was charged with possession of heroin and Jason Guadano, 33, of Wantage, was charged with possesion of heroin and possesion of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

According to a press release sent by Sgt. John-Paul Beebe, the car Scalici was driving, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, was stopped while traveling north on Sparta Junction just after 8 p.m. for allegedly having an inoperable right headlight. Beebe said officers found Scalici to be driving on a suspended driver's license. Trivisani and Guadano were passengers in the car and Beebe said Trivisani was in possession of a 12-pack of Twisted Tea, some of the bottles open.

Scalici allowed officers to search his vehicle, Beebe said, at which point the officers found the heroin above the visor of the driver's side of the car.

All three men were arrested, transported to the Sparta police station and later released in their own recognizance.
