2 Bears Found Dead on Route 15

NJDEP picked up the bears in Jefferson on Wednesday.

Two bears were found dead on the side of Route 15 North in Jefferson on Wednesday, police said.

The first bear was found shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Route 15 at the intersection of Berkshire Valley Road, where NJDEP officials later picked the bear up, Police Telecommunications Operator Henry Merz said.

The second bear was found around noon, also on Route 15 North, by the 8-mile marker, Merz said.

NJDEP officials could not provide any additional information about the bear reports on Wednesday.

Merz also said there wasn't any information reported on the size of the bears, or the reason they were on the side of Route 15.

"There's no accident reports, there's no incident reports," Merz said. "People just called in about a dead bear on the side of the road."

The bears were found just several days after the annual week-long hunt took place in Northern New Jersey.

The first bear killed in the hunt was a 165-pound male black bear in Jefferson on Dec. 4.

Over population of deer, bear,so lets just shoot them, here's a thought over population of human's,what are you gonna do???? if people would learn not to feed them they would not come close to human's,like the person said before, keep your garbage in your shed or garage,,,they maybe cute, but you are setting them up to be killed.

I was thinking the same thing @State Park. I honestly hope we are wrong. Because to think they were wounded and suffered, only to die on the side of a highway, is just heartbreaking. Whatever happened to live and let live? There has to be a better way than this.

Can;t stand the bear hunt! It shouldn't happen. eventually we will not have any bears and they will go extinct. Is that what we are aiming for? I'm all for hunting...IF you actually eat the meat. Killing them just to kill them is ridiculous! I agree keep your garbage tucked away. Stop feeding them. Stop following them when you see them. I know plenty of people who see a bear outside and have followed it down the road to see where its going or if it has cubs. HERES A THOUGHT..LEAVE THEM ALONE! Also agree we invaded there space. So many new constructions are going up and woods are being torn down. They will have no place to go in a few years. So what are you going to do...Shoot all deer, bear etc? WTF. Great idea then we will have NO WILDLIFE At all. Good Thinking Idiot's.
