Alleged Drunken Driver Indicted for Crashing Friend's Car

Lincoln Park man indicted on assault by auto charge for Sparta accident that injured passenger.

A Morris County man accused of being three times over the legal limit when he crashed his friend's car and injured a passenger in Sparta was indicted last week.

Sean T. Kaiser, 35, of Lincoln Park, was indicted last Tuesday on a fourth-degree assault by auto charge.

Kaiser was charged in October with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, driving while suspended, driving without a license, failure to keep right and several documentation violations.

According to Sparta police, Kaiser was three times over the legal limit when he drove his friend's 2007 Subaru off Route 94 near the Hardyston Township border at about 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Kaiser's friend, Dustin Shafton, 32, of Vernon, was a passenger in the vehicle and suffered a large contusion to his forehead, police said. Shafton, who was also allegedly intoxicated, was charged with allowing someone under the influence to drive his car.

Kaiser will be arraigned in Superior Court in Newton within the next six weeks.
