Alleged Marine Deserter Found, Arrested in Sussex County

Hamburg man is now in the custody of the U.S. Marine Corps Military Police.

Sussex County Sheriff Michael F. Strada on Tuesday announced the arrest of a Hamburg man for deserting the U.S. Marine Corps.

Steven Moyet, 27, reportedly encountered a sheriff's officer on Sept. 5, who recognized Moyet as a possible subject of an outstanding federal warrant and detained him until the warrant could be confirmed.  Further investigation showed that the man did indeed deserted from his Marine unit several months earlier.  

Moyet was arrested and ultimately remanded without bail to the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility for five days, when he was placed in the custody of the U.S. Marine Corps Military Police.
