Alleged Purse Snatcher Sought by Police

Investigation into purse stealing ongoing nearly five months after incident occurred.

Police are searching for a woman who allegedly acted as an accomplice to stealing a purse from someone's car, Mt. Olive Police Officer Michael Russell said.

Officers were dispatched to George's Liquor & Deli on Rt. 46 in Budd Lake on Jan. 21 for a report of theft, Russell said. An investigation revealed Scott August, 32, of Hopatcong, was one of two people who allegedly stole a purse from a car in the parking lot of the business, Russell said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are trying to identify a woman, August's alleged accomplice, with a surveillance photograph taken from the business.

August has been arrested twice in the past year on various drug charges, according to Hopatcong police.
