Army Sgt. Found Dead in Barracks Identified as Oak Ridge Man

Sgt. Gene Robert Brandes, 28, found unresponsive Tuesday, report says.

An Army sergeant found dead in his Texas barracks earlier this week has been identified as an Oak Ridge man.

According to nj.com, Sgt. Gene Robert Brandes, 28, was found dead in his Fort Hood, Texas barracks. The incident is under investigation, and Army officials have released little information, the report said.

Brandes was found unresponsive in his barracks on Tuesday, the report said.

Brandes enlisted in 2006 and served in both Iraq and Afghanistan for a total of 21 months on two different tours, the report said. 

According to armytimes.com, Brandes received three Army Commendation Medals, three Achievement Medals, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, and an Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star.
