Bloody Drunken Man Fled After Crashing Into Telephone Pole, Police Say

Lake Hopatcong resident faces several charges for Hopatchung Road crash.

A Lake Hopatcong man was found bloody with broken teeth after he crashed his pickup truck into a telephone pole while driving drunk last week on Hopatchung Road, police said.

Sean Kerr, 23, was charged with DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

According to Lt. Thomas Kmetz, no one was in or near the vehicle when officers arrived at the scene near Rite Aid shortly after midnight on June 16.

The officers searched the area and found Kerr walking with a female on Bell Avenue, Kmetz said. Kerr had two broken teeth and was bleeding from his mouth, Kmetz said.

The female was a passenger in the vehicle who was not injured and was trying to get Kerr to return to the scene, Kmetz said.

The passenger told officers they turned onto Hopatchung Road from Durban Avenue and Kerr then crashed into the pole, Kmetz said. Kerr told officers he got scared and ran from the scene, Kmetz said.

The officers found full and empty beer cans in the bed of the pickup, Kmetz said. Kerr told officers he had two beers, Kmetz said.

Kerr was transported to St. Clare's in Dover for treatment for his injuries and blood was drawn for the DWI charge, Kmetz said.
