Briefcase Stolen From Car on Dartmouth Trail

Real estate contracts, wallet stolen from unlocked car, police say.

Hopatcong police are looking for information regarding a stolen briefcase that appeared to have been taken from a car parked on Dartmouth Trail on Aug. 14, according to Lt. Thomas Kmetz.

Inside the burgundy brief case were real estate contracts, a wallet and a camera.

Kmetz said a man went to police headquarters to report items that had been taken from his car while he was parked on the 100 block of the street. The man told police he had heard his dog barking around 2 a.m., but did not look to see what the dog was barking at, according to Kmetz. The car was unlocked, Kmetz said.

A neighbor had told police they saw an old, "beat up" white pickup truck with a loud muffler come into the neighborhood slowly that night, Kmetz said.

Anyone with information should contact the Hopatcong Police Department at 973-398-5000.
