Conserve Water, Remove Brush, Sparta Cops Say

Here's the latest updates from Sparta Police on Thursday afternoon:

Garbage and Recycling

Police said due to the severe shortage of fuel, Blue Diamond Disposal is suspending Bulk Metal pick-up and Recycling only. Police said that regular garbage pick-up will be followed as normally scheduled, a long as the roads are accessible.

The DPW, Sussex County Road Department, and work crews from JCP&L are currently working to clear all roads, police said.

Brush Removal and Disposal

Police said the DPW will also be removing storm related brush that residents have stacked curbside. According to police, the DPW is currently removing storm-related brush from local streets.

Police ask to stack the brush curbside in piles no longer than 4-feet in length, so that the DPW can use the machinary to expedite the process.

Police said residents may line as many piles up as needed, but must just pile it in no longer than 4-feet.

Police said residents may transport and dispose all storm related brush at the Sparta DPW building located at Prices Lane during the following dates and times:

Nov. 2 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the first entrance to the DPW, you may bring your brush. A DPW employee will be on hand to direct you.

Police said residents can continue to transport and dispose of brush every day of the week Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Nov. 11.

Police said that the DPW will only accept storm related brush, and there is no charge for this service.

Water Conservation

Police said residents are urged to conserve water until further notice because of the storm related damage to several pump houses .

According to police, there is no boil water direction at this time, and the only water that should be boiled as a precaution is Non-Potable Water that is picked
up from another source.

Power

Police said power is beginning to be restored in some parts of town. Police remind residents that there are many snapped utility poles, dangling branches, and low hanging wires to be cautious of.

"The road conditions are still considered hazardous through out the township and extreme caution should be exercised along with common sense," the statement reads. "The damage will be repaired and all township services will be restored."

Police said that public safety will always remain as their biggest concern and "will be the focal point of our efforts."
