Cops: Man Coughed Up Heroin During Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Hopatcong residents were arrested after police converged on a house containing drugs, syringes and several juveniles, police said.

A State Police parole officer and several Hopatcong police officers went to a Chincopee Avenue home to arrest Scott August on a parole warrant on the afternoon of Nov. 23, police said.

August gagged and coughed up three white glassine folds of heroin and tried stepping on them as officers removed him from the home, police said. Officers also found $240 in cash on August, police said. A filled hypodermic syringe was also found in the bathroom where officers first spotted August, police said.

More drugs and paraphernalia were discovered in plain view in Sean Murray's room, including orange powder found on a debit card belonging to Kristy Jacobellis, police said. A search of the room turned up more drugs and paraphernalia, including a plastic bag and a silver marijuana crusher, each containing trace amounts of suspected marijuana, police said.

Five juveniles were found in one of the bedrooms, and they were brought back to the police station and released to their parents, police said.

August was charged with possession of heroin, hindering apprehension by attempting to destroy evidence, and possession of a hypodermic syringe. He was sent to Sussex County Jail en lieu of $20,000 bail with no 10-percent option, police said.

Jacobellis and Murray were each charged with possession of Xanax and possession of a hypodermic needle. Both were released pending a court date, police said.
