Cops: Cocaine, Pot Found at Rave [Video]

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A wild party packed with about 200 people at the clubhouse ended abruptly when police found drugs on three men, Lt. Tom Kmetz said.

Sgt. Joseph Magrini and Officers David Kraus, Gerald Mancuso and James Bianculli thought the building was on fire due to smoke emanating from the clubhouse when they responded to a noise complaint on Woodland Avenue around midnight Saturday, Kmetz said.

But it was really a fog machine and, as the officers approached, about 20 people fled the building, Kmetz said.

When the officers entered, the lights were switched on, Kmetz said. And after police ordered the attendees to sit along the walls, bags of marijuana and powder were found strewn on the floor, Kmetz said. More bags of powder and sodas mixed with alcohol were discovered in the bathroom, Kmetz said.

The powder inside the bags was suspected to be ecstasy, Kmetz said.

Justin Holmes, 21, of Lincoln Park, was charged with possession of cocaine and ecstasy. Nicholas Balevski, 19, of Lincoln Park and 21-year-old Nicholas Carmean, of Paterson, were each charged with possession of marijuana.

The parents of the juveniles at the party were contacted and either responded to the clubhouse or allowed friends to bring the juveniles home, Kmetz said. Adults were given sobriety tests, police said. Those who passed the tests were allowed to drive home, Kmetz said.

The host of the rave, 19-year-old Delbert Flood, of Hopatcong, was charged with unlawful noise, sound-producing device restrictions and maintaining a nuisance.

Kmetz said Flood organized the rave via Facebook, reaching out to about 4,000 people. About 200 indicated they would be attending the party, Kmetz said.

Kmetz said a Wildwood Shores Association member told police the clubhouse had been rented out a member for a birthday party, but that member then allowed Flood to use it to host the rave.

Hopatcong Fire Marshal Richard Cook plans to investigate the building's use, Kmetz said.

After the rave, YouTube user Triple Threat Productions© posted a video of the party. At about the 1:31 mark the the screen turns blurry and police are shown investigating the party.

The video says police threatened to "spray" the attendees if they didn't sit down. But Kmetz said that wasn't true. He also said the officers searched partygoers and the area after finding the bags of drugs.

A voicemail left for the Wildwood Shores Association wasn't immediately returned.
