Cops: Driver Admitted Having 4-5 Drinks

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong woman told an officer she had "four or five" drinks before getting behind the wheel Saturday, police said.

Deborah Mathews was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain the lane, and throwing debris from the vehicle.

Police said they saw Mathews drive into a curb on Lakeside Boulevard in Landing. Police said they followed Mathews into Hopatcong, where she drifted several times while driving and threw her cigarette out the window when pulled over at 11:32 p.m.

Police said Mathews had a strong smell of alcohol on her breath and admitted to drinking before driving. She failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Mathews was processed and released to a friend, police said.
