Cops: Drunk Driver Almost Crashed into Officer

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong man drove drunk and got his car stuck on a wall before nearly crashing into a police vehicle, cops said.

James Boyce was charged with the following: driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to keep right, failure to maintain lane, obstructing the flow of traffic, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

An officer responded to a report that a vehicle was teetering off a wall on River Styx Road near the Arrow Crest Lodge on Sept. 5, police said. But en route to the scene, police were told the vehicle had driven toward the River Styx Bridge, police said.

As the officer approached the bridge, a vehicle matching the description driving in the wrong lane, toward , police said. The officer swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid the vehicle, police said. Then the officer caught up with the vehicle and forced it to pull over in the Grotto's parking lot, police said.

Police said Boyce failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Boyce was processed and released to a friend, police said.
