Cops: Drunk Driver on Wrong Side of Road

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong woman drifted into the oncoming lane while driving drunk, police said.

Officer David Kraus was driving behind 23-year-old Jennifer Allen as she repeatedly went into the oncoming lane on Lakeside Boulevard near midnight April 21, police said.

Kraus activated his emergency lights near the Lakeside Boulevard-Holiday Drive intersection, police said, but Allen didn't pull over until she entered the Hopatcong Plaza on Hopatchung Road.

A high-risk motor vehicle stop was conducted because of Allen's refusal to stop, police said.

Allen later told police she was scared to stop because it was her boyfriend's truck, police said.

After determining Allen was "highly intoxicated," Lt. Thomas Kmetz said, Kraus had Allen perform field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Allen was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, failure to keep right, reckless driving an unapproved equipment—there was cardboard in the vehicle's back window, police said.

Allen was taken to the , processed and released to a friend, police said.
