Cops: Drunk Driver Was Speeding

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Flanders man was driving drunk and speeding on Lakeside Boulevard, police said.

Thomas Ryder was charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding.

An officer parked at the saw Ryder speeding down Lakeside Boulevard, heading toward Landing, on July 23 around 9:30 p.m., police said. When Ryder pulled over, there was a strong scent of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, police said.

After failing field sobriety tests, Ryder agreed to take a breath test, police said. His blood-alcohol content was .18, or more than double the legal limit, police said.

Ryder was processed and released to a friend, police said.
