Police: Juvenile Hits Cop, Resists Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A juvenile threatened to run from home and struck a police officer, police said.

Officer David Kraus responded to Coolidge Trail for a report of a mother saying her juvenile son was threatening to run away again and that he was on probation at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Kraus' intended to speak with the male about running away, police said. But when he arrived, the juvenile locked Kraus and his mother out of the house before cursing at the officer, police said.

As the mother tried gaining entry to the home via the back door, there was a struggle between her and her son, and Kraus pushed his way into the home, police said. Kraus then tried talking to the juvenile, and when he walked away from him, Kraus grabbed his arm, police said.

Then the juvenile swung his arm backward, striking Kraus before turning toward him in a fighting stance, police said. At that point, Kraus took the juvenile to the ground and handcuffed him with the help of Officer Gerald Mancuso, police said.
