Cops: Man Drove Drunk on Lakeside Blvd.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong man drove drunk and let his car roll backward during a traffic stop, police said.

Ruben Flandes was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, carless driving and failure to keep right.

Flandes' vehicle crossed the double-yellow line and drifted back and forth within its lane on Lakeside Boulevard, police said. And when pulled over, Flandes had a strong scent of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, police said.

While he was searching for documents, Flandes' car rolled backwards before an officer asked him to put it in park, police said.

Flandes failed field sobriety tests, police said. Flandes was taken back to the police department, where he agreed to a breath test, police said. The test showed Flandes' blood-alcohol contest at .22, or almost three times over the legal limit, police said.

Flandes was processed and released to a friend, police said.
