Cops: Man Gives Fake Name to Avoid Arrest

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Stanhope man gave a Hopatcong police officer a fake name because he thought he was wanted by Essex County authorities, police said.

An officer pulled over Aaron Zablow for speeding around 5 p.m. Jan. 4 at the intersection of Flora and Durban avenues, police said.

Zablow gave the officer the vehicle's registration and insurance information, but said he didn't have his drivers license, police said. Then Zablow told the officer a fake name and provided two birth dates, police said. Zablow also said he suffered from severe dyslexia and recently had his identity stolen, police said.

The officer then followed Zablow to his home so he could retrieve his drivers license, police said. When Zablow emerged from his house several minutes later, he admitted to giving police the wrong name and it was actually his cousin's, police said. Zablow told the officer he lied because he thought he was wanted on a warrant out of Essex County after posting bail on a drug charge, police said.

Zablow was charged with hindering apprehension, speeding and failure to exhibit documents. He was processed and released, police said.
