Cops: Man Hid Heroin in Cigarette Pack

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Stanhope man admitted to a police officer that he was hiding heroin and a syringe in cigarette packs, police said.

An officer pulled over Matthew Stanchak on a warrant from the Morris County Sheriff's Office around 11 a.m. Saturday, police said. After Stanchak admitted to knowing he had a warrant out for his arrest, Stanchak was ordered out of the car and to empty his pockets, police said.

That's when he handed a cop two cigarette packs and admitted they contained heroin and a syringe, police said.

Stanchak was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a hypodermic syringe, driving with a suspended license and possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a vehicle. The Hopatcong police department then transferred custody of Stanchak to the Morris County Sheriff's Office, police said.
