Cops: Man Hunts on Private Land

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Jefferson man was bow-hunting illegally on Hudson Farms' land, police said.

An officer responded to a repot of a male trespassing on private property during the afternoon on Sept. 27, police said. A Hudson Farm official brought the officer to a trail about 1.5 miles from the nearest paved road, police said.

The officer then spotted Scott Copelton dressed in hunting gear and carrying a bow without a case, police said. Copelton first told the officer he wasn't hunting before admitting it after being asked a second time, police said. Copelton also said he knew he was on private property, police said.
