Cops: Man Shoots Rifle Near Family Member

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong man shot his rifle just feet above the bed where his family member was laying after they had an argument, police said.

Officer Richard Sadowski and Detective Mike Luciani responded to the Arrowcrest Lodge for a report of a dispute with a gun at 8:59 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Fredrik Greaker, 67, was sitting calmly in a chair when the officers arrived, police said. But an investigation soon found Greaker had an argument in his apartment with a family member, police said.

Then Greaker took out a 1918 Enfield Rifle from the closet that was loaded with eight .303 caliber rounds, police said. He fired one round 4 feet above the bed, where the family member was laying, police said.

The bullet traveled through the wall and wasn't recovered, police said. But the spent casing was discovered still chambered in the rifle, which had been put back in the closet, police said.

Greaker was arrested and brought to the , where he was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose; second-degree certain persons not to possess weapons; third-degree aggravated assault; and making terroristic threats, a third-degree crime, police said.

Greaker was transported to Sussex County Jail en lieu of $50,000 bail.

This place is disgusting as is the motel which sits on Lakeside Blvd, shame on the town for allowing these places to exist in town, and you wonder why drugs and violence is so high in town

I have to say I agree with this. The old Arrow Crest, 3-"C"''s or what ever you want to call this expansive dump, along with the old Hob Nob eye sore, attract less than desirable "residents" (that's putting it mildly) who do not directly contribute financially to the borough and utilize huge amounts of local, county and state resources ranging from schools, local police, emergency medical care, welfare and many other government assistance programs. I would imagine there are a few decent, law abiding, productive residents living there, but for the most part, these are transients who bring numerous problems to the borough including the rampant drug trade in town. This recent incident is just one more of many that occur on a regular basis in this hell hole. I would think that there would be numerous health, building code and other violations that could be unearthed at these dumps that, if enforced as they should be, would bring the owners of these joints to their knees, forcing them to clean up their act or close up shop.

The owners of that place are very nice and good citizens who help out the town more then you know. I agree some people living there aren't your ideal citizens but there people who are just like them who rent houses out too. They live there on the state. Complain to them not the owners. Get something better to complain about. Stuff LIke this happens everywhere.

Ah, but, Meatnugget, it is the owner's responsibility not to rent to the kind of people who bring down their own neighborhood. I have rental properties (houses) and rest assured those tenants were screened and a watchful eye is kept on the property.

Just because people are poor does not make them criminals. If you go back read the some of the past news clips from patch or anywhere, if they are adults, if they overdosed, etc they will put the address or atleast the name of the road, there are more junkies in single family homes than in the Arrow Crest.
