Cops: Man Smashed Light After Year-Old Argument

Bayonne broke boathouse light because he thought owner was rude to him, police said.

A man broke a Hopatcong resident's boathouse light as revenge for an argument they had a year before, police said.

Dhruva LaTorre, 26, of Bayonne, was charged with criminal mischief.

Hopatcong police responded to a report on May 1 of two males and a female in a black and white sport boat approaching a boathouse and smashing a light.

Police said a Hopatcong man who owned the light got into his own boat, traveled to Lee's Park in Mount Arlington and found LaTorre and his friends loading the sport boat into a truck. Police said the Hopatcong man recorded the truck's license plate number and gave it to police, who contacted LaTorre on May 4.

LaTorre admitted to breaking the light, police said. LaTorre said the Hopatcong man was rude to him and his friends while they were on a boat in Lake Hopatcong last year, police said. So LaTorre drove his boat to the man's boathouse and smashed a $750 custom light fixture in retaliation, police said.
