Cops: Man Smoked Pot in Car

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A man was arrested Tuesday because he smoked pot in his car and drove recklessly, police said.

An officer was driving behind Short Hills resident Kevin Rogers on River Styx Road when he saw Rodgers drift in and out of his lanes with busted license plate lights near midnight on Tuesday, police said.

The officer pulled over Rodgers, whose car smelled like burned marijuana, police said. The officer saw green vegetation, which the cop believed was pot, scattered on the floor of Rodgers' car.

Rodgers' eyes were watery and bloodshot, and his breath smelled like pot, police said. After denying smoking marijuana several times to the officer, Rodgers eventually admitted to smoking it in his car, police said.

Rodgers was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, maintenance of lamps, unclear plates, weaving, failure to exhibit a driver's license, possession of marijuana, and being under the influence of marijuana.
