Cops: Man Tried Ditching Pot on 4-20

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Hopatcong man threw a bag of pot on the ground while trying to elude an officer April 20—the unofficial pot-smokers' holiday—police said.

Officer James Bianculli was checking borough parks while on patrol when he saw three people in Squire Field around 11:30 p.m. Friday, police said. After he saw 22-year-old Jason Olavarria throw something, the three began jogging away, police said.

When Bianculli finally stopped them, he discovered what Olavarria discarded—a bag of marijuana, police said. Manuel Figeroa, 18, was carrying a 24-ounce can of Keystone Ice beer, police said.

Olavarria and Figeroa each were arrested and taken to the , police said. Olavarria was charged with possession of marijuana. Figeroa was charged with possession of alcohol underage.

The third person wasn't arrested, police said.
