Cops: Men Denied, Then Admitted, Having Pot

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two Sparta males denied having pot before an officer spotted it in their car, police said.

A officer approached a car parked running with its lights off in the intersection of Indian and Papoose trails around 11 p.m. Dec. 16, police said. The officer smelled burned marijuana inside the vehicle and asked its driver, Frank Kane IV, who had an arrest warrant from Byram and a suspended license, to get out, police said.

Kane gave the officer permission to search his car, police said. After the officer removed the passenger, Matthew Holdsworth, from the vehicle, the officer saw a plastic bag filled with pot on the ground near the passenger side door, police said. Loose marijuana was also throughout the car and in a sunglass case and a pot pipe with burnt marijuana residue in it was on the center console, police said.
