A relative stole nearly $4,000 worth of jewelry from Hopatcong residents while they were away on a cruise, police said.

Carly Gallo, 22, of Sparta, was charged with third-degree theft after stealing $3,900 worth of jewelry from a Cove Road residence while the homeowners were away, Lt. Thomas Kmetz said.

Gallo, who is related to the homeowners, entered the residence unannounced and a house-sitter saw her with jewelry, needles and empty folds of heroin, Kmetz said.

Gallo pawned the jewelry at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall to buy heroin, Kmetz said.

Gallo was lodged at the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

She looks a mess......Sounds like her life is a mess. It's all about choices. Some people chronically choose to make poor ones.

Google her name & this isn't the first time she was in the paper for heroin. I don't know what it is that drives these kids to dope, but heroin use is a big problem in Sparta/Hopatcong. Parents & schools have failed these kids. As a parent of a elementary school aged kid, it is terrifying what is going in Hopatcong High School regarding drugs (specifically Heroin). This poor girl is ruining her life. Even in the statistically unlikely chance she is able to quit the dope, any future perspective employer doing a quick google search will learn of 2 heroin arrests. Such a shame.
