Cops: Woman Crashed Into Pole, Blood-Alcohol Was .21

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Stanhope woman drove drunk and crashed into a utility pole, police said.

Kelly Giacomaro was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving on June 18.

Police said they responded to a report of a car accident on Sparta Road in Hopatcong. Giacomaro, police said, drove about 50 to 60 feet off-road before hitting a utility pole.

Giacomaro had minor injuries and refused to be taken to the hospital, police said. A breath test revealed Giacomaro's blood-alcohol content was .21, or more than double the legal limit.

Giacomaro was released to her parents, police said.

.21? and she was still standing much less driving? See, this is what scares me, this area is full of unlit, winding roads with blind curves and no shoulders. At night I go to Andover to see my mom and travel the back way back to Division. It's a coin toss because you never know who or what is or will be around the bend. I know we have limited if any mass transit or cab service up here but for God's sake people use your common sense, there are other people on these roads besides you and depending on the hour, there could be kids walking along the side of the road and you know they almost never walk in single file. Do you want a death on your hands and conscience for the rest of yours and your families lives? I sure don't Don't drink and get behind the wheel at any cost. If you are tht bad, and have no other way home, call the police they would rather come pick you up and drive you home then have to pull you over or worse see you at an accident scene.

All I have to say to you Bill Is AMEN!!! I was in a similar circumstance a year ago visiting my cancer stricken mother in law in Vernon nightly. My husband would drive me crazy on the way home using the back roads through Northwood to Division and Dupont. Every other car that would cross the center line ever slightly would make him so nervous he would basically make me pull over and wait till the car was out of sight. I used to get kind of annoyed by this until we were hit by a drunk driver. Thank God we weren't hurt, but I will never again be annoyed by his its better to be safe than sorry attitude. I can only hope your wise words reach at least one person thinking of drinking and driving.
