Cops: Woman Gave Us a Fake Name

The following arrest information was supplied by the Hopatcong police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Dover woman tried using a fake name, but she couldn't outsmart Hopatcong police, cops said.

Officer Anthony Cirri responded to a report of two females who got out of a boat and began urinating on a resident's property around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The resident told police he yelled at the women, but then they confronted the resident, who then called authorities, police said.

When Cirri arrived, the women refused to give him information for his report, police said. Eventually, one relented and told Cirri her name, police said.

But the other told Cirri her name was Carol Ann Farber of Beaver Brook Lane in Denville, police said. Cirri later called the Denville police department, and an officer there said the department didn't have her name on file, police said. Then Cirri checked the Department of Motor Vehicle database, which also didn't have anybody matching that name, police said.

So Cirri then checked Facebook under another friends' name who was also at the scene, police said. On the friend's Facebook page was the name Carol Ann Burns, whose photo in the DMV database matched the female who gave Cirri a fake name, police said.

Cirri then called Burns, who refused to report to the , police said.

Burns was charged with hindering an investigation by giving false information to a law enforcement officer. Burns was advised of her court date over the phone, police said.
