Court Date For Hopatcong Couple Charged With Stealing 15K From Soccer Club Moved

Matthew Simon, 37, and Stacey Siegel, 34, were charged with third-degree theft and conspiracy in January.

The first appearance for the Hopatcong couple charged with stealing $15,000 from a borough youth soccer club in January was postponed on Monday. The pair are scheduled to appear before Judge N. Peter Conforti in Newton on May 9 for an early disposition conference, where the pair could be offered a plea agreement.

Matthew Simon, 37, and Stacey Siegel, 34, were charged with third-degree theft and conspiracy. Siegel's attorney, Carmen Liuzza, asked Conforti Monday for adjournment. Conforti agreed, ordering the new date.

Liuzza's office said he was not available for comment.

Police said the couple brought their children to California last April and purchased airline tickets, hotel accommodations, a car rental and gas, and made several ATM withdrawals using Hawks Soccer Club funds.

Simon and Siegel are former club board members.
