Cracked Windshield Leads to 'Blue Magic' Heroin Bust, Cops Say

Brothers from Franklin charged by Sparta cops.

A cracked windshield led police to arrest a pair of brothers for possession of heroin on Route 15 in Sparta Township Thursday morning, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said.

Cpl. Robert Fraser stopped a vehicle for the non-moving violation at 11 a.m., with brothers Sonny DeLacruz and Andrew Monath inside, Beebe said. DeLacruz was driving at the time, and told Fraser he and his brother were on their way to work at a construction site in Sparta Commons, Beebe said.

Both men hailed from Franklin Borough.

During an investigation it was revealed DeLacruz had a suspended license and a $400 traffic warrant from Franklin Municipal Court for driving while suspended, Beebe said.

At that time Delacruz was placed under arrest for driving while suspended. Monath, who did not have a driver’s license of his own, went to police headquarters with his brother. Before entering the patrol car, Monath requested he bring his and his brother’s tool belts and other work-related items to the police station, Beebe said.

Police quickly searched the items and found 24 bags of “Blue Magic” heroin, Beebe said.

Monath was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. DeLacruz was charged with driving while suspended and operating a motor vehicle with a cracked windshield.
