Drunken Sparta Woman Spits, Throws Punch at Officer, Police Say

Dory E. Schwing, 43, also slipped out of her handcuffs and had 'violent outbursts' while in custody at the police station, report said.

A drunken Sparta woman who had been in an argument with her husband spit and threw a punch at an officer who was trying to calm her down, police said.

Dory E. Schwing, 43, was charged with third-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fourth-degree throwing bodily fluid on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

According to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe, officers responded to a Skyview Drive home after a dispatcher received a 911 call from a woman who was yelling and screaming and then hung up at about 11 p.m. on April 11.

Officers Richard Smith and Daniel Elig found Schwing and her husband in a "heated argument" when they arrived, Beebe said.

Schwing became "verbally abusive" to the officers, cursed at them and refused to calm down, Beebe said. Schwing then ignored the officers' orders and left the home and went out into the driveway, Beebe said.

When Smith approached and attempted to calm her down, Schwing spit at him and tried to punch him in the face, Beebe said. Schwing's punch missed and she was physically taken to the ground where she "resisted violently," Beebe said.

Schwing was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she slipped out of her handcuffs while restrained to a metal lock-down bench, Beebe said. She activated the "panic alarm system" before she was re-secured to the bench with both of her wrists restrained with a separate pair of handcuffs, Beebe said.

Schwing was released when a relative posted $5,000 bail and her case has been transferred to the Sussex County Superior Court for prosecution.

She "slipped out of her handcuffs," in other words she escaped from the handcuffs. Sparta police should buy real handcuffs, not the ones they sell at ToysRUs!!
