As the crackdown on seatbelt violators rolls along until June 1 in the annual Click It or Ticket Campaign, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced Wednesday a drunken driving checkpoint will be established this weekend in Mt. Olive.

The checkpoint is a result of a grant received by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office from the State Division of Highway Traffic Safety Administration that will enable law enforcement to establish DWI checkpoints at various locations and times throughout the county.

This weekend’s scheduled checkpoint in Mt. Olive does not yet have a public date or location, but the Prosecutor’s Office will announce details when they become available.

You’re mistaken. The police cannot detain you without cause, and refusing to answer questions is not cause. In fact, it is a constitutional right under the 5th amendment. You think just because you’re law abiding and tell the truth, you have nothing to worry about? Guess again. Do yourself a favor, and take the time to watch this video…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wXkI4t7nuc

They can detain you while they investigate....if they have reason to ask you to do tests and you outright refuse.... then they will just let you go ???? I hardly think not.... I can also assume that if you are uncooperative, there will be other consequences such as any ticket that they could come up with. So,once again if you have done nothing wrong then you will be on your way within minutes and hopefully be treated w respect.. otherwise you will beheld for awhile as they treat you with the same respect as you give them...just from my experiences.

Been there, you really need to learn your rights because you’re totally ignorant of them. A checkpoint is not an investigation, it’s a fishing trip. You are required to pull over, but not required to answer any questions. They cannot detain you without cause. Period! Your attitude that if you’ve done nothing wrong, you should have nothing to fear is not only incorrect (watch the video), but is what is leading us headlong into an irrevocable police state. The police now have the right to stop and question us, they have the right to frisk us in NYC, they can listen to our phone calls and read out emails… when will it all end??? If we just constantly give in because it’s the ‘easiest’ thing to do, then we’ll all deserve the police state that we’ll all eventually be living in. If not us, our children and grandchildren.
