Fourth Man Wanted in Backyard Robbery Arrested, Police Say

Scott August was arrested Friday in Newton on the outstanding warrant for the December incident at Madison Trail home.

A Hopatcong man who managed to elude authorities in connection with the robbery and assault of a group of people at a backyard party last month has been arrested, police said.

Scott August, 33, who remained on the run with a warrant issued for his arrest on robbery and terroristic threats charges, was arrested at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, police said. August was sitting in the back of a car parked outside the Marshall's on Route 206 in Newton when he was questioned by the Newton police.

The Newton officers arrested August based on the Hopatcong warrant, according to Hopatcong Police Lt. Thomas Kmetz.

Three Hopatcong men—Kyle Shalkowski, 26; John J. McKevitt, 24; and Shawn Price, 19—were charged with robbery and making terroristic threats after visitors to Shalkowski's Madison Trail home on Dec. 9 said they were robbed of $300, according to police.

The victims said they were threatened in the backyard by the men and one of the people was allegedly hit on the lip during the confrontation.

August was arrested last February on heroin possession and distribution charges as well as resisting arrest and was one of 25 people arrested in the October 2012 "Operation Roxicong" bust. August was also charged in a Mount Olive purse snatching last summer and allegedly attempted to swallow three folds of heroin as he was arrested on drug charges in 2011.

August is being held at Sussex County Correction Facility in Newton in lieu of $75,000 bail, police said.
