Free Food for Powerless Residents at High School

Red Cross offering warm meals to those affected in Hopatcong on Wednesday night.

The Sussex County Red Cross will offer warm meals to borough residents without electricity at between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday, Police Chief John Swanson said.

The humanitarian organization also will offer drinkable water. Hopatcong Community Emergency Response Team members will be there to help, Swanson said.

Water buffalos at fire company No. 3 have been to residents.

The high school's locker rooms and showers will also be available for for those without power. for the locker room and shower schedule.

Swanson said the meal truck will be parked at the gymnasium's rear entrance.

"It's nice to see we're getting a little bit of outside attention," he said.

Swanson said he wasn't sure if the truck would be around again.

Area supermarkets will give Jersey Central Power & Light customers without electricity the power company said.

More than 800 Hopatcong residents were still without power as of 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to JCP&L's outage map.
