Hail Pelts Hopatcong as Strong Thunderstorms Rip Through Area

About three-quarters of an inch of hail was recorded in the Lake Hopatcong area.

Nearly an inch of dime-sized hail was recorded in Hopatcong Thursday afternoon as severe thunderstorms ripped through the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a trained spotted recorded three-quarters of an inch of hail in the Lake Hopatcong area and social media reports indicated more than 2 inches of hail accumulated in the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson.

The storm also downed branches and power lines in the area.

More stormy weather is expected for the Fourth of July with heavy rain from Hurricane Arthur predicted for the area.
